As you may have heard, the City of Grand Rapids has applied for the Google Fiber initiative. Through this initiative, Google would launch fiber-optic Internet service for up to 500,000 homes in Grand Rapids at speeds more than 100 times faster than what most of us have today (over 1 Gigabit per second).
As an engaged member of the business and technology community, we are asking for your support:
- Please nominate Grand Rapids by visiting http://bit.ly/98iR7U (it only takes a few minutes!)
- After you’ve nominated Grand Rapids, please join the Google Fiber for Grand Rapids Facebook page at http://bit.ly/9Xw19W. Copy the confirmation code from Google’s e-mail and post it to the group to show your support!
- Please have your company prepare a letter of support for the City to provide as part of its response (no letters from individuals, please). You can find a sample letter here: http://bit.ly/bKjxh1 Send this to Sally Wesorick on company letterhead: swesorick@grcity.us or fax 616-456-3448.
Sally is also looking for cutting-edge ideas for next generation applications of this service and dreams about how we could use it to make a positive difference. How would your company use Google Fiber to develop new products and services? How would a huge Internet pipe improve education, medicine, or other areas? Any and all ideas are welcome.
Thanks for your support!
